Shiogama Shrine: A solemn approach lined with 202 stone steps and ancient cedar trees

Shiogama Shrine Shiogama Jinja

Shiogama Shrine is one of Tohoku’s most important historic shrines. Its present buildings were completed in 1704, and many are designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan. A long stone stairway leads to the dignified precinct, which takes on a softer beauty when cherry blossoms bloom in spring.
